IG Post: Loyalty

Loyalty is a weird thing in Jiu-jitsu. It's expected from students to instructor. Unfortunately lines get blurred when money is paid for a service and promotion criteria is hazy and subjective at best.

No one expects you to be loyal to the plumber, doctor, or even your private trainer. You're a "loyal" customer because you find the service and it's price favorable to you. But like anything, our loyalties should end when that person or business is not giving the appropriate level of service.

Loyalty is not permanent, it should not be expected, or blindly given. It is not bought or coerced through future promises of belt promotions or potential income.

Loyalty is in essence bartered and built through acts of giving, time spent on the mats, and genuine kindness for the sake of kindness.

Loyalty in the end, is a choice of free will.
